    Dave Robb

    Godan (5th degree black belt) – Kodokan Judo

    David R. Robb has been practicing judo since 1963. He has recently been graded to Godan (5th degree black belt) in Kodokan Judo. Dave began his judo studies under the late Mr. Frank Hatashita, at York University. Later, he studied and obtained his shodan rank under Mr. Ray Kelly at the University of Alberta. He is presently studying the katas under Mr. Duncan Vignale. Dave fought on the York University judo team for four years, then one year for the University of Alberta. In 1968 Dave fought for the province of Alberta at the Nationals in Saskatoon. Dave is a National C referee and has completed Level 2 of the NCCP in judo. He has been the dojoshu of the Kohbukan Judo Club since 1988 and the Director of the Kohbukan Shiai since 2000.

    Dave is a retired high school English teacher. He has written an illustrated syllabus for the club. His main focus in judo has been with young people. He began a school club for Central Public School which has been steadily growing in size over the past several years. Dave has also developed a strong interest in the various Kata (formal techniques which illustrate various aspects of Judo). Dave and his partner, Paul Davidson competed at the Nationals in 2005 in both Nage no Kata and Goshin Jutsu coming third in each event.

    At present, Dave is active in judo, teaching and practicing. In what little time he has outside of judo, Dave builds boats, sails, and wind surfs in the summer and skis in the winter.

  • Wayland Pulkkinen

    Wayland J. Pulkkinen has been practicing judo for over 40 years, and is presently a registered 5th degree black belt in Kodokan Judo. He is a former member of the Canadian National Judo Team, and has competed and participated in a variety of both international judo competitions and training camps throughout his athletic career. In addition, Mr. Pulkkinen is a former national level competitive freestyle wrestler, who competed for two different university and club teams. He also is a registered 1st degree black belt in Jiu Jitsu (Canadian Jiu Jitsu Council), and holds the rank of Sempai in Chokushin Aiki Jujutsu. Mr. Pulkkinen has been practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over 16 years, and holds the rank of black belt.

    His education includes a Bachelor of Physical Education (McMaster University), a Master of Science in Applied Sport Science and Coaching (Lakehead University) a diploma in Primary Care Paramedicine (Humber College), a diploma in Advanced Care Paramedicine (Georgian College).

    Mr. Pulkkinen is a fully certified Level 3 coach under the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) in both judo and wrestling, and also has completed several Level 4 and Level 5 NCCP tasks towards certification. He is a former chair of the provincial program for Judo Ontario, in addition to being a course conductor and presenter for NCCP courses.

  • Anne Marie Hodgson Constantino

    Shodan (1st degree black belt) – Kodokan Judo

    Anne Marie Hodgson Constantino started taking judo at age 6 at the Stratford judo club, training under Sensei Paul Hunt. She fought in judo at the 1995 Ontario Winter Games while in high school.

    She started attending Kohbukan Sisu judo about 10 years ago, and earned her black belt in 2018. She has also completed NCCP part 1 & 2.

    Her education includes: a Bachelors degree in English, and a Masters of Science in Education. She works as a Secondary school teacher. She spends her spare time with her husband and 3 children.

    At present she continues to practice judo and assist teaching Kohbukan Sisu judo classes.

    Linda Majunke

    Sandan (3rd degree black belt) – Kodokan Judo

    Linda began practicing judo at the age of 8 in Kitchener under the teachings of the late Dave Thomas. In 1991, she joined Asahi Judo Club in Kitchener and in 1995 obtained a shodan (1st degree black belt). While at Asahi, she instructed many adult and kids classes and co-formed the women's only self defence/judo program.

    During this time, Linda participated in classes at Club Olympia under the instruction of Wayne Erdman. In 1998, she was part of the Victoria Park Neighbourhood Association and through the association, started Fun & Fitness Judo Club. The judo club continued for 20 years until 2019 when she joined the Kohbukan-Sisu judo club. She has level 2 NCCP training and enjoys teaching at the club.

    Now a third degree black belt, Linda enjoys learning judo kata and competing in kata competitions.

  • Mike Cottrill

    Nidan (2nd degree black belt) — Kodokan Judo
    Shodan (1st degree black belt) — Shinki Ryu Ju Jiu Jitsu

    Mike Cottrill has been training in martial arts for over 30 years. Mike has obtained the rank of Nidan in Judo and Shodan in Shinki Ryu Ju Jitsu. Mike has also trained in Shotokan Karate, Aikido, Krav Maga, Brazilian Ju Jitsu, and Systema.

    Mike is certified in self defense and the owner of Canadian Self Defense Strategies, a realistic approach to self protection.

    Mike has obtained a designation of Level 2 in the Canadian National Coaching Certificate Program (NCCP). He has studied Judo under Maurice McDowell, Wayne Erdman, Ron Angus, Bob Zettle and others.

    Mike has been involved in the fitness industry for over 40 years with respect to bodybuilding, personal training, nutrition, instruction and counseling.

    Mike studied Philosophy and Sociology at York University, Journalism at Conestoga College and Fire Suppression at the Ontario Fire College.

    Mike has been an avid participant of squash for over 30 years and is a newcomer to pickleball.

    Finally, Mike spends way too much time walking, hugging and petting Yin, Oreo, Suki, Pepper and Luna…his three dogs and two cats.

  • Michael Melanson

    Ikkyu (brown belt) - Judo

    Michael has been practicing Judo since 2002 and has previously trained under Wayne Erdman at Club Olympia in Kitchener, Ontario, as well as the Takahashi family and Tony Walby in Ottawa, Ontario.

    He has been teaching Judo ever since his daughter watched Judo in the Olympics on TV and wanted to try it out herself.
